This essay is adapted from the third and final keynote address to participants of the Second Annual Symposium on Lasallian Research. The author connects the twentieth-century emergence of structures for scholarly work within the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools to the developing twenty-first century dialogue about the nature of Lasallian research. The author describes the structures, agenda, and other resources available from within the institute to provide Lasallian researchers with the formation and networking opportunities that will empower them to dismantle barriers to interdisciplinary and multi-institutional research. Identified barriers include language diversity, physical distance, and the intransigent nature of the kinds of problems Lasallian research must study in order to fully comprehend and live out the Lasallian Educational Mission in contemporary societies.
